Set high above Kandersteg and surrounded by sheer rock faces and snow-capped peaks, Oeschinensee is often ranked among Switzerland’s most beautiful mountain lakes – and it’s easy to see why. Part of the UNESCO-listed Jungfrau-Aletsch region, this glacier-fed lake shimmers in vivid turquoise and offers a peaceful, postcard-perfect escape into nature.
The journey starts with a 15-minute cable car ride from Kandersteg, followed by a scenic half-hour walk through alpine meadows and forest. At the lake, you can enjoy a picnic by the shore, take a gentle hike around the water’s edge, or rent a rowboat and float across the calm, icy-clear surface.
It’s a truly magical spot for all ages – ideal for a laid-back day of mountain air, scenery and space to breathe. Oeschinensee is incredibly popular in summer, especially at weekends, so for the best experience, we recommend visiting on a weekday and booking your ticket in advance.
