The Voralpen-Express is a scenic rail journey connecting Lucerne and St. Gallen, travelling 125 kilometres through the beautiful landscapes of Central and Eastern Switzerland. Taking just over two hours, the route combines mountain views, picturesque lakes and rolling countryside on a relaxed journey between two of Switzerland's most historic cities.
Leaving Lucerne, the Voralpen-Express travels towards Arth-Goldau with views of Lake Lucerne and Mount Rigi before climbing through the impressive upland moorland around Rothenthurm. The journey continues past Lake Zurich and Rapperswil before crossing the green, rolling landscapes of Toggenburg towards St. Gallen.
One of the journey's highlights is the Sitter Viaduct, rising 99 metres above the valley near St. Gallen. With comfortable modern trains, panoramic windows and hourly departures throughout the year, the Voralpen-Express is an easy way to experience a lesser-known section of the Grand Train Tour of Switzerland.
