Climb aboard the cogwheel railway and ascend through the rolling forests and alpine meadows of the Monte Generoso nature park. This peaceful 9 km route winds its way up to 1,704 m, where one of the best panoramic viewpoints in Ticino awaits. From the summit, enjoy sweeping 360° views taking in Lake Lugano, the city of Lugano, and stretching all the way to the Matterhorn, Jungfrau, and the Bernina Range.

At the top, the striking Fiore di pietra (stone flower) building by renowned Swiss architect Mario Botta stands proudly on the plateau. Its elegant design and wide windows offer breathtaking vistas, whether you're enjoying the indoor exhibits or dining at the summit restaurant.

Whilst most journeys are made in state-of-the-art electric trains, Monte Generoso is also home to the oldest operating steam locomotive in Switzerland, dating from 1890. Occasional heritage rides recreate the romance of early mountain rail travel.

Once at the summit, the mountain is yours to explore. Over 50 km of hiking trails wind through the landscape, including the educational Nature Trail and the Ice Pits 'Nevere' path, which visits restored stone huts once used to chill dairy in summer.
