Palm Express — from St Moritz to Lugano
The PostBus route enables you to experience an unforgettable journey from the glaciers of the Engadine to the
palms of Lugano - with a side trip to Italy. Whether it is the deep blue lakes of the Upper Engadine, sparsely-wooded larch forests and snow-capped mountain
peaks, or the quaint villages with their typical Engadine houses, guests will marvel at the rich diversity of the landscape.
Shortly after crossing the Maloja Pass (1,815 m a.s.l.), the route winds down into the Bergell Valley, where the intact village
scenes and the stately chestnut forests hint at a Mediterranean influence. At Castasegna the train crosses into Italy, arriving
at the market town of Chiavenna shortly afterwards, and then continuing past Lake Mezzola on the way to Lake Como
with its many holiday resorts. The route passes Menaggio, and after affording superb lake views, also passes Lake Lugano
and Gandria as it renters Switzerland. Shortly afterwards the train makes its final stop - at the vibrant city of Lugano in
Ticino, marking the end of this interesting and fascinating journey.
